성균관대학교에서 동양화를 전공하고, 동국대학교에서 미술학과 박사학위를 받은 류재춘은 한국화에 대한 연구로 작업을 지속하고 있다. 한국화는 예술혼과 창의적 회화 정신을 계승하고 발전시키며 전통적이고 아름다운 우리 문화 뿌리를 표방하기 위해, 한국적 예술성과 특유의 심미적 조형성을 표현하고 있다. 류재춘의 화풍은 대담함, 직설적, 시원함 그리고 거침없음 과 필력에 힘이 있고 호방한 것이 특징이며, “전통의 창조적인 계승”이라는 한국화 작품 세계를 대표하고 있다. 류재춘은 전통에 머물지 않고 독특하고 기발한 아이디어로 한국 수묵화의 새로운 바람을 일으키고 있고, 한지에 먹으로 그린 수묵화를 LED조명을 활용해 전시하면서 전통문화와 ICT 기술을 융합하는 새로운 영역을 개척했다는 좋은 평가를 받고 있는 한국의 대표적 화가이다.

Ryu Jae-chun majored in Oriental painting at Sungkyunkwan University and obtained a doctor’s degree in Fine arts at Dongguk University and now continues to research Korean painting. Korean paintings express Korean unique aesthetic formativeness and artistry not only to inherit and develop the artistic and creative spirit on painting but also to advocate the roots of our beautiful traditional culture. Her paining style is characterized by boldness, straightness, clearness, inexorable, and her powerful writing skill. Her paintings represent Korean paintings under the slogan “Creative succession of tradition”. She doesn’t remain in the traditional way but brings a new sensation to Korean ink painting with unusual and extraordinary ideas. She is a representative painter in Korea who is well-received for pioneering a new field of blending of tradition and ICT technology by displaying Ink paintings on hanji(traditional Korean paper made from mulberry trees) with LED lighting.

류재춘 작가의 개인전은 '갤러리 도올'의  개관 30주년 기념 전시 중 하나로, 지난 2023년 5월,  '갤러리 도올'에서 가졌던 동일한 주제의 개인전과도 연결되는 듯합니다.

 

작가의 전시를 유심히 관람한 것은,

2022년 2월, '갤러리 나우'의 <Full MOON  마음의 달, 풍요를 품다> 展부터,

2023년 5월, '갤러리 도올'의 <한국의 달> 展,

2023년 10월, '순화동천'의 <달빛이 흐르면 그림이 된다> 展,

2024년 4월, 'SH 갤러리 서울'의 3인 그룹전시 <달과 미궁> 展 등입니다.

 

첫 관람 당시에 비하여, 작가의 붓선이  점차 굵어지는 듯한 느낌이 들어 부분적 묘사 용묵법(用墨法)인  파묵(破墨)보다는 전체적 윤곽과 형태를 중요시하는  발묵(潑墨)으로 화폭을 채워나간다는 느낌이 강했습니다. 특히, 굵고 직선 형태의 붓선을 통해 산을 비롯한 사물의 형태를 명확하게 표현한 것은 작가의 작품 경향에서  '큰 이탈'이라 생각되었는데ᆢ 이번 전시의 작품들은 굵은 붓선의 중첩을 통해 '발묵'보다는 '파묵'의 느낌이 보다 강해진 듯합니다.

 

굵은 붓선으로 형(形)을 마련한 뒤, 붓질의 중첩으로  음양과 명암을 표현하며 그림을 마무리했다, 는 느낌이라고 할까요? 그림이 보다 '묵직해졌다', 는 느낌입니다. 포스팅을 준비하며  떠오른 생각은, 류재춘 작가는 꾸준한 작업을 통하여 부단히 실험 중이고, 계속 진화 중이다, 는 것입니다.

 

전시 개요 / OVERVIEW

한국의 달 – 바람이 시작되는 곳

‘한국의 달’ 이란 주제로 선보이는 이번 작업은 그간의 형상으로 이어온 달을 소재로 좀 더 다양한 접근을 시도한다. 전통적 맥락에서 먹이 색채와 만나 내면화된 달 형상은 현실과 비현실 사이를 자연스레 오간다. 산과 달이 겹치면서 색은 짙어졌고 파묵을 전제로 화려한 원색의 컬러가 어울려 화면은 빛이 가득하다. 달은 중심에 자리하거나 공간 모퉁이에 있거나 잡힐 것 같지만 잡히지 않는 달로 욕망의 상징이 되기도 한다. 이루어 내려는 인내와 끈기가 마침내 결실을 거두는 한국인의 정서가 달로 표현되었다는 작가의 말에서 달은 추상화되는 경향이 있다. 누구나 한번 즈음 마음속으로 빌며 간직했던 소망이 달의 형상을 빌어 은유적으로 나타난 셈이다. 계곡과 나무, 산 사이로 달은 어울려 몽환적인 모습이 된다. 개인의 삶을 돌아보는 것이기도 한 작가의 풍경은 빛이 가득한 공간에서 각각의 색에 의미를 부여한다. 간결한 구상으로 달빛이 가득한 노란색은 풍요의 상징으로, 붉음은 봄을 기다리는 겨울의 거대하면서도 역동적인 힘을, 푸르름은 큰 돌을 움직이는 부드러운 물의 힘을, 보라는 삶과 죽음의 경계를 통해 이룰 수 있는 몽환적인 꿈을, 최근에 나타난 핑크는 모든 에너지를 끌어안아 빛나는 소원을 상징한다. 동시에 여백이 되어주는 둥근 보라는 마음의 달로서 한 사람이 바라본 평범한 풍경이 내면과 만나면 작품이 될 수 있는 상황을 여실히 보여준다. 자연을 섬세히 살피며 그만의 풍경을 만들어 간다. 여러 해 동안 산을 경험하여 등장한 은 작가 자신의 삶 일부처럼 거듭된다. 색채와 빛이 물든 지금의 시리즈는 현대적 감성으로 아름다움이 묻어난다.

 

작가는 본인의 작업을 K-수묵이라 정의하고 전통을 이으며 오늘날의 가치, 의미를 부여한다. 호방하고 역동적인 붓의 터치를 전제로 한국적 미감을 살려 파격적이라 할 만큼 독보적인 실험을 해왔다. 실제로 보라색의 풍요가 깃든 연작으로 최근, 한류를 이끄는 대기업이 발행한 200여 개의 최초 한국화 NFT 작품은 10초 만에 완판 되는 결실을 맺은 바 있다. 묵직한 먹과 한지를 대상화한 담대한 세계관 뒤에 미디어 특허·메타지능·AI 등 신기술력과 만난 K-Painting을 통해 한국화의 변용을 이끌고 있다. 류재춘의 메타공간은 산수 대상을 원근개념으로 만들고 이미지화하여 기존 방식을 넘어 다층의 세계관을 창출함으로써 한국화의 경계를 넘는 확산의 네트워크를 시도한다. 법고창신을 실천하며 오늘날 한국화가 나아갈 방향을 찾는 시도는 현재 진행 중이다. 세상과 만나는 일로 풍경들은 추상이 되고 시간이 순환하여 상념과 감정이 더해져 만들어낸 초현실적 장면들은 진지하고 여유롭게 해답을 모색하는 중이다. 동시대에 새로운 사유를 만들고 있다.

 

Korean Moon – Where the Wind Begins

Under the theme of , these works attempt to take a more diverse approach with the moon that has been continued. In the traditional context, the internalized moon shape meets the ink and colors and naturally moves between reality and unreality. As the mountains and the moon overlap, the color has become thicker, and the screen is full of light due to the combination of colorful primary colors and gradation of ink. The moon is located in the center, at the corner of space, or is likely to be caught, but it is also a symbol of desire. The moon tends to be abstracted from the artist’s words that the Korean sentiment, whose patience and perseverance to achieve finally pays off, is expressed as the moon. In other words, the wish that everyone had wished for and kept once appeared metaphorically in the shape of the moon. The moon becomes dreamy when it meets valleys, trees, and mountains. The artist’s landscape, which is also a reflection of an individual’s life, gives meaning to each color in a space full of light. Yellow, full of moonlight, symbolizes abundance, redness symbolizes the huge yet dynamic power of winter waiting for spring, green and blue symbolize the power of soft water that moves large stones, purple means dreamy dreams that can be achieved through the boundary between life and death, and pink, which has recently appeared, holds all energy and shines. At the same time, round purple, which is a blank space, is a moon of mind, which clearly shows a situation in which an ordinary landscape viewed by a person can become a work when it meets the inner side. She carefully examines nature and creates her own paintings. , which has appeared after experiencing mountains for many years, is repeated like a part of the artist’s own life. The current series, filled with color and light, is beautiful with modern sensibility.

 

The artist defines her work as K- ink, connects tradition, and gives today’s value and meaning. On the premise of a bold and dynamic brush touch, she has been experimenting with an unrivaled experiment that is unconventional by taking advantage of its Korean aesthetic. For example, with a series of with purple abundance, more than 200 first Korean painting NFTs recently published by large companies leading the Korean Wave were sold out in 10 seconds. Behind the bold worldview that targets heavy ink and Korean paper, K-Painting, which meets new technologies such as media patents, meta-intelligence, and AI, is leading the transformation of Korean painting. Ryu Jae-chun’s meta-space attempts a network of diffusion that crosses the boundaries of Korean painting by creating a multi-layered worldview beyond the existing method by making and imaging arithmetic objects a perspective concept. Attempts are currently underway to find a direction for Korean art today by studying the new from the old legacy. Scenery becomes abstract due to meeting the world, and surreal scenes created by adding thoughts and emotions over time are seriously and leisurely seeking answers. It’s creating a new idea for now.
