프랑스의 현대 화가 '미셸 들라크루아'는 자신이 태어나고, 어린 시절을 보냈던 1930~40년대의 파리 풍경을 그립니다. 물랭루즈와 에펠탑, 노트르담 성당, 몽마르트 언덕 등 파리의 명소들을 무척 섬세하고 친근한 화풍으로 표현하죠.

 

그림을 자세히 들여다보면, 마차와 올드카가 같이 다니고, 제복을 입은 경관, 화려하게 차려입은 파리의 귀부인들 등 낭만적인 모습을 만날 수 있습니다.

 

예술적 기교 이전에 순수함과 행복함을 전해주는 그의 동화같은 작품은, 이번 주말부터 내년 3월말까지 서울 예술의전당에서 전시될 예정입니다. 이 화가는 19세기의 낭만주의 화가 '외젠 들라클루아'와는 전혀 다른 작가입니다.

Artist Michel Delacroix was born in 1933 in Paris and grew up during the German Occupation. Michel Delacroix's paintings reflect the city of that time with its absence of cars and street lights. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and then worked as an art teacher. He experimented with various painting styles until he discovered his unique naif style that, with its flat, almost two-dimensional representations combined with strong colors, evokes the atmosphere of the past.

 

Many Michel Delacroix paintings are of Paris, although his portfolio includes other cities and landmarks. He was selected as the official artist for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta, which grew demand for Michel Delacroix's prints for sale. He has received several awards celebrating his gentle, primitive style including the Grand Prix des Amateurs d’Art (Paris).
