About Him
A joyful mix between Hantaï and Matisse, Quentin Monge's art combines colors and shapes in a warm, salty, refined and luminous breath, straight inspired by his childhood spent drawing in the sand.
Rocked by the sun and the beaches of St Tropez, Quentin Monge grew up with his head full of colors. Today, he lives in Paris and captures a minimalist universe through beautifully composed patterns.
A prolific creative, Quentin never ceases to explore and create digital illustrations for prestigious clients such as Airbnb, Candy Cheri, Bugaboo and Kiehl's...
Quentin works with characters with simplified forms across an enchanted world, women in bikinis riding crocodiles or swimmers in perfect harmony with sharks or juicy watermelons.
Can you introduce yourself in a few words?
I am Quentin Monge, painter and illustrator, I live in the south of France in the Gulf of St Tropez. I have been drawing since my childhood, I continue today and try to remain as faithful as possible to the child I was.
What is your background?
After studying visual communication in Aix en Provence, I started with freelance missions as an art director in Australia, London and then Paris. I realized that it was too far from what I wanted to do. The lack of personal expression naturally led me towards illustration which opens me to a wide range of techniques and endless exploration.
What are your sources of inspiration?
My sources of inspiration are multiple. The most obvious is nature, I like to return to it, observe the seasons: it is an unlimited inspiration. I am very sensitive to photography and cinema, I can sometimes put "pause" on a film when a shot touches me and evokes a future drawing.
Can you tell us about your creative process?
I always proceed in the same way: an image, a posture or a landscape imposes itself on me. There follows a gestation period where the composition is refined in my head, and one morning the image is there, ready to be succinctly drawn on paper then placed on the canvas. Depending on the requests it is not always a canvas, it can be an order that results in a digital rendering, the process remains the same, only the tools change.
A work that represents your world well?
I think that the series of pins embodies well the anchoring that I have in the South of France as well as the exercise of translating what I see through my drawings. It is a back and forth between reality and the one that I want to create and share.
The artist you admire the most?
My influences are multiple, I quote different artists every time I am asked this question! Today my mood would say Félix Vallotton, I admire his ability to capture fleeting moments and make them exist forever through colors that allow us to see reality differently.
What message do you want to convey through your works?
I would like to be able to invite people who view my work to slow down. To sit down and acknowledge the beauty of what surrounds us.
