미국의 판화가 '사브라 필드'는 고대 목판술을 공부했습니다. 나무판에다 목가적인 느낌을 담아 계절의 화려함과 아름다움을 새긴답니다.

 

그녀가 수작업으로 프린트한 목판화에는 부드러운 곡선과 사선이 기하학적 비율로 편안함을 전해주며, 화려하고 선명한 색상의 잉크가 종이 위에서 조화를 이루고 있습니다. 그녀가 나무판에다 새겨 찍어낸 겨울 풍경들은 조용한 겨울 동화입니다.

Hand-pulled refers to prints that are printed by hand (either by Sabra or her assistant at the time).  The prints are lifted or literally ‘pulled’ up and off of each inked woodblock, hence the term, hand-pulled.

 

Archival Pigment Prints are those that she had on her website for the past 10 or so years.  They were either printed by Northlight Editions in WRJct. VT or Cone Editions in Topsham, VT.

 

Archival Pigment Print with Chop refers to the tradition of the printmaker using a symbol (unique to them) in addition to their signature.  In Sabra’s case, it’s a colored handprint.  As she was making the transition from hand-pulled to Archival Pigment Prints (APP), she used the chop on the new APP’s to help distinguish between which process was used to create the print.  Once she went solely to APP’s, the use of the chop was discontinued.  These earlier prints were printed on a slightly less brilliant white paper, so they do not match the more recent production (if trying to complete a suite, for example, they will not match perfectly).

 

Although Sabra is technically ‘retired’ she is still creating and I will be offering some new images of hers in the near future.  These titles will be a collaboration between she and I.  She will be creating the images and I will assist her in the cutting of the blocks and the printing of the prototype that will be printed as an archival pigment print.
