20세기 후반 비공식주의 또는 추상 표현주의 작품 화가이자 조각가.

 

그는 바르셀로나에서 미술을 공부한 후 1940년대에 화가로서의 경력을 시작했다. 1950년대 초 파리로의 여행은 사물의 통합과 물질의 처리를 통한 추상 콜라주(비공식주의)에 눈을 뜨게 하는 계기가 되었다.

 

들판과 대지에 달라붙는 비옥한 색채의 조형적 표현인 그의 작품은 기호와 암시적인 몸짓 사이의 시적 대화를 만들어낸다.
1960년대 말, 그의 작품은 관객이 그 의미를 이해할 수 있도록 암시를 통합하면서 정치화된다. 이 당시 그의 특징적인 스타일은 건축이나 현장의 재료와 요소의 외관에 의해 비판적인 잔인함으로 정의되기도 했다.

 

이후 그의 작업은 콜라주를 통해 조각으로 확장된다. 70년대를 거치며 더 광범위하고 큰 규모의 재료(3차원 물체 및 달걀 껍데기, 흙, 짚과 같은 유기 물질 등)를 사용함으로써 그의 작품세계는 3차원으로 진화하여 도자기, 그래픽 작품, 태피스트리, 포스터, 벽화, 서적 및 무대 세트에 이르기까지 매우 다양하게 표현되며, 이중에는 2006년에 디자인한 La Pobla de Cérvoles(Lleida)에 위치한 와이너리 Mas Blanch i Jové도 있는데 포도원 한가운데엔 다양한 예술가의 조각품과 기타 예술품을 혼합하는 The Artists' Vineyard 프로젝트를 진행하기도 했다. 아티스트 포도원(The Artists' Vineyard)은 2010년 그가 사망한 후 그의 조각품인 시골 오르간 (The Countryside Organ)의 공개와 함께 개장됐다.

Josep Guinovart was one of the greatest representatives of Informalism in Catalonia of the mid-20th century. He came into contact with painting thanks to the family business, as a wall painter. This origin, together with the childhood experience of the Spanish Civil War in his maternal town of Agramunt, marked his career, through a sensitive look at the elements around him, and towards the social and political problems of his time. His professionalization in painting began with figurative representations inspired by the rural world.

 

The turning point will come with the trip to Paris in 1953, where the direct vision of the works of Cézanne and Matisse caused him a real internal commotion. Thus, in 1955 he founded, together with Tàpies, Cuixart or Tharrats, the short-lived Taüll group; and in 1958 he entered fully into abstraction. However, his works will continue to allude to the reality of the environment, through the intervention and subsequent inclusion of wood, fabrics, tools, stubble and corn grains, being close to matter painting and assemblage. In fact, he stands out as a multidisciplinary artist, working in areas such as set design, engraving, illustration or tapestry. During the last stage, color and lines were reincorporated, in a balanced relationship with the embedded objects in his work.
